Goals and Objectives for the Security Workshop
• Provide a forum to bring researchers and sponsors together to share research and education interests
related to maritime security & globalization effects.
• Better comprehend the systems in which crises emerge, in order to shift awareness from a response
mode to a more proactive, predictive mode.
• Identify leadership competencies required to facilitate these shifts and manage change in complex
environments.
• Establish support, sponsorship, and follow-on activities for research ideas generated.

Seventh Security Workshop 2009
This Security Workshop in Singapore on 15-17 July 2009 is the 7th in a series of Security meetings organized by Temasek Defence Systems Institute (TDSI), Singapore, Naval Postgraduate School (NPS), USA, and Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL), USA. With guidance from the Cooperative Strategy for 21st Century Seapower, a new maritime strategy that stresses the importance of preventing wars as well as prevailing in them, Department of Defense leaders and international research representatives gathered at the 2008 Globalization and Maritime Security Conference in Washington, D.C., to examine critical globalization issues and international security challenges.

Short Suspense FY08 Research Topics
Research is sought in the following topic areas in FY08:
* Alternative Energy
* climate change
* Literature search on coordinated cyberops
* The interagency process---who’s in charge?
* National Guard roles
* Total Force---Integrating the Guard and Reserve
* Cyberwar
* UAV/UAS CONOPS
* Electronic Warfare
FY 08 labor support is available for projects (some travel). However, there is good promise of 09 and 10 funding.
Faculty with interest and labor hours able are encouraged to propose the following kinds of short term work (1-3 week projects) in FY08:

We have identified three general research areas in which to build collaborative proposals:
1. Globalization systems,

Challenges of Maritime Security
Our goal for the Maritime Security focus will be to advance research in the following three areas:
1. Port Security,
2. Global Maritime Partnerships, and
3. Security in Straits
