Complex Operations Case Study Series Call for Participation
Scholars and practitioners interested and engaged in complex operations – stability operations, counterinsurgency and irregular warfare – are invited to submit short proposals to participate in the complex operations case study project. Those selected will be invited to contribute a case study for publication in the series, and to participate in a workshop on case teaching and writing in Washington, DC currently scheduled for September 27-30, 2009.

Complex Operations Case Study Workshop
Scholars and practitioners interested and engaged in complex operations – stability operations, counterinsurgency and irregular warfare – are invited to submit short proposals to participate in the complex operations case study project. Those selected will be invited to contribute a case study for publication in the series, and to participate in a workshop on case teaching and writing in Washington, DC September 27-30, 2009. The workshop requires little advanced preparation, as the focus is on building skills for teaching and writing, including the use of case method in the classroom.

Research to Inform Education - PKSOI and NPS
Dr. Karen Guttieri, representing PKSOI and NPS, discussed research as a component of education, and described PKSOI support to the peace and stability operations research community in the following forms: direct sponsorship, expertise at conferences, exercises and doctrine development, guidance to researchers, and distributing research products, and USG lessons learned assessments.

Case Study Call for Participation
Goals and Objectives for Curriculum Development
Courses will be developed in FY08 for in-residence instruction, supported by distributed learning technology, leading to fully online courses in FY09.
Objectives for this program of study include the following:
* Develop understanding of stability, security and development in the global environment
* Provide certification for leaders and practitioners of complex operations
* Compare cases / develop analogical reasoning
* Provide assessment / planning tools for integrated / complex missions
